Purpose

The purpose of this Code of Conduct is to define the expected behaviors and ethical standards for all members of the Rosehill College community, including both staff and students. This document aims to foster a respectful, professional, and supportive environment conducive to learning and working.


Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all staff, students, and affiliates of Rosehill College. It covers interactions within the college community and with external stakeholders, ensuring a harmonious and ethical environment.


Definitions

Respect: Treating others with consideration, valuing their dignity and rights.
Integrity: Upholding honesty and strong moral principles in all actions.
Professionalism: Adhering to the standards and expectations of one’s role and industry.
Confidentiality: Ensuring that private or sensitive information is not disclosed without authorization.
Discrimination: Unfair or prejudicial treatment of individuals based on characteristics such as race, gender, or disability.
Harassment: Unwanted conduct that violates an individual’s dignity or creates an intimidating environment.


General Principles

All members of Rosehill College are expected to:

Respect and Integrity:

  • Treat all individuals with respect, fairness, and dignity.
  • Uphold honesty and integrity in all academic and professional activities.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and maintain transparency.

Responsibility and Accountability:

  • Take responsibility for actions and decisions.
  • Comply with all college policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
  • Report any misconduct or breaches of this code.

Professionalism:

  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism in behavior and appearance.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively.
  • Use college resources responsibly and for their intended purposes.

Diversity and Inclusion:

  • Promote an inclusive environment that values diversity.
  • Refrain from discrimination, harassment, and bullying.
  • Support equal opportunities for all members of the college community.

Confidentiality and Privacy:

  • Protect the confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.
  • Follow privacy laws and college policies on data protection.
  • Use information only for legitimate purposes.

Staff Responsibilities

Academic and Professional Standards:

  • Deliver high-quality education and support to students.
  • Prepare thoroughly for classes, assessments, and professional duties.
  • Stay updated with developments in their field.

Ethical Conduct:

  • Serve as role models of ethical behavior and professionalism.
  • Avoid exploiting the position of authority for personal gain.
  • Address unethical behavior in others.

Support and Communication:

  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students.
  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with students and colleagues.
  • Be accessible to students for academic and support matters.

Collegiality:

  • Collaborate and support colleagues in their professional roles.
  • Participate in college activities and contribute to a positive workplace culture.

Compliance:

  • Follow all college policies and legal requirements.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and training.

Student Responsibilities

Academic Integrity:

  • Commit to academic honesty and avoid plagiarism, cheating, and collusion.
  • Submit original work and acknowledge sources appropriately.
  • Meet deadlines and academic requirements.

Participation and Engagement:

  • Attend scheduled classes and actively participate in learning activities.
  • Engage constructively in discussions and group work.
  • Seek help and support when needed.

Respect and Behavior:

  • Show respect for fellow students, staff, and college property.
  • Communicate respectfully in person and online.
  • Refrain from disruptive behavior and adhere to classroom conduct standards.

Personal Conduct:

  • Maintain appropriate dress and behavior standards.
  • Use college facilities and equipment responsibly.
  • Report any issues or concerns to relevant college authorities.

Safety and Well-being:

  • Follow health and safety guidelines.
  • Report any hazards or unsafe behavior.
  • Support a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Reporting and Addressing Misconduct

Reporting Mechanisms:

  • For Staff: Report misconduct to a supervisor or the Human Resources department.
  • For Students: Report issues to a teacher, Student Support Officer, or the Student Services department.

Investigation Process:

  • Reports will be handled confidentially and investigated promptly.
  • All parties involved will be treated fairly and with respect.
  • Actions will be taken in accordance with college policies and legal requirements.

Consequences:

  • Misconduct may result in disciplinary actions, including warnings, suspension, or dismissal.
  • Serious breaches may be reported to external authorities.

Review and Updates

The Code of Conduct is reviewed annually or as needed to ensure it remains relevant and effective. Updates are made based on feedback from the college community and changes in legal or educational standards.
