1. Introduction

Rosehill College is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This policy outlines our approach to managing health and safety risks and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety regulations.


2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to:

  • Establish and maintain safe working and learning conditions.
  • Prevent accidents, injuries, and illnesses related to college activities.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation and standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety and health awareness.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all college activities and facilities, including:

  • Classrooms and lecture halls
  • Laboratories and workshops
  • Offices and administrative areas
  • Common areas and recreational spaces
  • External locations used for college activities (e.g., field trips)

4. Definitions

Hazard: A potential source of harm or adverse health effect on a person or persons.
Risk: The likelihood of harm occurring and the severity of the outcome.
Incident: An event that leads to or could have led to injury or illness.
PPE: Personal Protective Equipment used to minimize exposure to hazards.


5. Health and Safety Commitments

5.1 Risk Management

  • Identification: Regularly identify and assess hazards associated with college activities.
  • Control Measures: Implement control measures to eliminate or minimize risks.
  • Monitoring: Continuously monitor and review control measures for effectiveness.

5.2 Training and Awareness

  • Induction: Provide health and safety induction training for all new staff and students.
  • Ongoing Training: Offer ongoing health and safety training relevant to specific roles and activities.
  • Awareness Programs: Conduct awareness programs to promote safe practices.

5.3 Emergency Preparedness

  • Emergency Procedures: Develop and communicate emergency procedures for various scenarios (e.g., fire, medical emergencies).
  • Evacuation Drills: Conduct regular evacuation drills and review procedures.
  • First Aid: Ensure the availability of first aid facilities and trained personnel.

5.4 Health and Wellbeing

6. Responsibilities

6.1 CEO

  • Oversight: Ensure overall compliance with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Resources: Allocate resources to implement health and safety measures.

6.2 Academic Manager

  • Implementation: Oversee the implementation of health and safety procedures in academic settings.
  • Training: Ensure that staff and students receive appropriate health and safety training.

6.3 Health and Safety Officer

  • Coordination: Coordinate health and safety activities and monitor compliance.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct regular risk assessments and audits.
  • Support: Provide support and guidance on health and safety matters.

6.4 Staff and Students

  • Compliance: Comply with health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Reporting: Report hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Participation: Participate in health and safety training and awareness activities.

7. Health and Safety Procedures

7.1 Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment

  • Regular Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify hazards.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate risks associated with identified hazards.
  • Control Measures: Implement and monitor control measures to mitigate risks.

7.2 Emergency Procedures

  • Emergency Contacts: Maintain updated emergency contact information.

7.3 First Aid
